Duties

• You will arrange cargo load for best support and to ensure the proper unloading sequence and on occasion may assist or direct the arrangement of cargo load out.
• You will drive vehicles on specific trips or on regularly established schedules and routes in order to transport material and equipment within government installations and between government installations.
• You will maintain trip records or logs showing time of departure sequence of stops time of return trip mileage fuel and oil consumption accidents damages or traffic violations.
• You will operate trailers including enclosed vans flatbeds equipment trailers lowboy trailers to 60 tons capacity and occasionally other types of specialized trucks tractor or truck-tractor combinations which may include dual braking systems.

• Within the Department of Defense (DoD) the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets gloves coveralls glasses goggles respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Commercial Drivers license.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including:

1. Assessing traffic conditions and hazards locally and over long distance routes;

2. Using safety rules and regulations to operate vehicles such as semi-tractor-trailers heavy duty flatbed trucks heavy fuel tank trucks heavy straight in-line trucks heavy duty tow trucks heavy vacuum trucks crane trucks heavy duty waste disposal/trash collection trucks and vehicles weighing more than 32000 pounds;
3. Selecting routes based on hazardous conditions and laws restricting use of roads based on size of trucks.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

This position requires rotating shift work.
